The Knights return to the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park for a performance on Tuesday, June 25 at 7:30 pm. Led by conductor Eric Jacobsen, the chamber orchestra will present a program of Boccherini, Stockhausen, Mozart and a world premiere by Phillip Glass.
More than standard summertime fare, the program traces aspects of religion and mythology. Stockhausen's Tierkreis (Zodiac), consists of 12 melodies, each representing one sign of the zodiac; Boccherini's Sinfonia No. 6 is nicknamed "La Casa del Diavolo" ("the house of the devil") and includes a hellish chaconne; a suite from Glass's 1993 chamber opera Orphee is based on the Orpheus legend; and Mozart's Symphony No. 41 is nicknamed the "Jupiter."
Jeff Spurgeon hosts the live broadcast.
Program details:
Eric Jacobsen, conductor
Boccherini: Sinfonia No. 6, ‘La Casa del Diavolo’ for orchestra in D minor, Op. 12, No. 4
Glass: Suite from Orphee (World Premiere)
Stockhausen: Selections from Tierkreis
Mozart: Symphony No. 41 in C Major, K. 551, “Jupiter”
