The Black Swan Effect

Real World Records

The Black Swan Effect's debut album is set for release on 5th April 2010 on Real World Records, featuring singles 'In The City' out 11th January and 'Winter Sun' out 29th March.
At the heart of The Black Swan Effect is the songwriting duo, Dominic and Gareth. Take two musicians. 15 years ago they collaborate. Then their lives diverge.
While Dom formed a band, travelled the world, had top 40 singles, a double platinum UK number 1 album and played the main stages at Glastonbury, Reading and V, in stark contrast Gareth put the dream to one side and stepped away from music.
15 years after their first musical collaboration and after a chance meeting earlier last year the two vowed to work together again. Then Dom's wife (critically acclaimed filmmaker, Heidi Greensmith) asked them to write the soundtrack to her latest documentary Rock Star, giving them an ideal opportunity to start work.
Initial sessions went well and an early demo found it's way into Peter Gabriel's hands, who immediately signed them up to Real World Records. All this before the band hand played a note live.
Recording sessions followed at Real World Studios in Box, Wiltshire where it became apparent that there was an album lurking in there too. To compliment the recording collective Dom invited his good friends John Hogg and Jesse Wood. Both were blown away by the early workings of the songs and were eager to start recording.
Long time friends were brought in to aide the process: Martin Wright to co-produce with Dominic, and Sean Genockey (Manic Street Preachers, Suede, Tom McRea) to engineer and mix the project. 11 tracks formed the album.
Next thing they were on tour in South America with Peter Gabriel (with old friend Kenwyn House replacing John Hogg on guitar for live work). Until this year Gareth had never performed in front of a live audience, so naturally his first shows with the band were playing a rousing stadium tour of South America to crowds of tens of thousands!
Real World Records was founded in 1989 by WOMAD and Peter Gabriel. Since its birth Real World Records has grown into a label of wide-ranging, world-class music from all corners of the globe. Artists who have recorded on the label include: The Blind Boys of Alabama, Charlie Winston, Joseph Arthur, and Portico Quartet.
The Black Swan Effect are: Gareth Hale: Vocals and Guitar, Dominic Greensmith: Drums, Jesse Wood: Bass, Kenwyn House: Guitar
