"Music of rural China, evoking intense moods of
peace and sadness, with fresh arrangements by brothers from a musical family
dispossessed by the Cultural Revolution.
The Guo Brothers'
repertoire ranges from ancient Chinese tunes to modern, popular compositions.
It takes the listener on a journey from the vast plains of Mongolia to the most
remote mountain villages. Music has always been a vital part of The Guo
Brothers' lives and they trained from a young age under conditions of hardship
and poverty in Peking. Having mastered many instruments, Yue now specializes in
Chinese flutes, while Yi plays the ancient sheng, a hand-held, mouth-blown
organ. Drawing upon these ancient traditions, the album also gives space and
expression to fresh arrangements and free improvisation. It represents a unique
collaboration with producer Pól Brennan, Irish musician and songwriter, and
former member of Clannad". Listen and watch the videos of Guo
Brothers's music: The dream of the red mansion, Dancing and singing in the village and Training horses on the Mongolian Grassland.
